Tips From Hollywood Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu

Are you a professional nail tech? One thing that you may not often think about is the affect of your breath on your clients manicure experience. Hollywood Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Wu shares these tips for getting clean & fresh smelling breath.

"Watch your diet. What you eat affects the way your breath smells, so avoid foods like onions and garlic. Choose dental hygiene products you like. The right products can give a boost of inspiration to your dental health regimen.

Brush and floss your teeth. Brushing after eating and before going to bed, and flossing once a day, will help keep food particles from getting stuck between your teeth and trapped under the edges of your gums.

Brush your tongue. Food sticks to your tongue too, and the residue can contribute to bad breath.

Think ahead. If I’m on the go and I know I won’t have time to brush after lunch, I’ll pack a Colgate Wisp mini brush for a quick and freshening fix. The Wisp is a disposable “brush” with a minty, freshening bead that dissolves in your mouth and can be used without water.

Drink water. Even if you don’t eat for hours, at least drink water to keep your mouth from getting too dry.

Go to the dentist. Getting regular dental checkups and professional cleanings will help prevent tooth decay and gum infection.

If you follow all these tips but still have bad breath, talk to your doctor. You may have an underlying medical condition, such as a sinus or lung infection, postnasal drip, or diabetes."
